Capabilities
The Stennis International Airport runway (18-36) is 8,500 feet long, 150 feet wide, grooved and lighted, with pavement strength sufficient to support passenger and cargo aircraft.
The north-south orientation of the runway provides wind coverage of 99.74% of all winds above 13 knots (15 MPH).
The runway is equipped with High Intensity Runway Lights.
Runway 18 and Runway 36 operate under Visual and Instrument Flight rule conditions, and each has PAPI's installed to assist pilots in their landing approaches. The Airport has an Air Traffic Control Tower, UNICOM communications and an operating AWOS-3 weather sensor system on the field.
Current instrument approach procedures available at Stennis International Airport include the following:
- ILS CAT I
- VOR/DME, RNAV or GPS approach to Runway 18
- VOR or GPS-A Circling Approach to Airport
- NDB Approach to Runway 18
- GPS Approach to Runway 36
- LOC Approach to Runway 18
Instrument approaches may utilize both the Picayune (PCU) and Gulfport (GPT) VOR's, as well as local NDB's. Pilots planning instrument approaches to Stennis International Airport should contact Gulfport Approach Control at the radio frequency listed in the most current approach plates for Bay Saint Louis/Stennis International Airport.
